Montréal, Tuesday, January 15, 2019 - The NUMIX AWARDS, a competition rewarding the excellence of digital productions in Quebec, is launching its entry period today. Organized by digital experience producers association Xn Quebec, the Gala, which will take place on May 9, is undeniably the most important annual gathering for the Quebec digital creation industry. Producers can enter their productions until February 17, 2019. New this year: participants can take advantage of a 20% discount on the usual rate for entries submitted before January 27, inclusively.
With this 10th edition, the competition continues to evolve with now 26 awards given in 7 major categories representing the main areas of activity of the industry: Communication and Marketing, Linear Web Production, Interactive or Immersive Production, Cultural Production, Production from a Digital Personality, Most Successful Production outside Quebec, and Gaming Production, which is given in collaboration with La Guilde des développeurs de jeux vidéo indépendants du Québec. A total of 30-plus jury members, all of them professionals from the industry, will be asked to analyze the various projects submitted.
TWO NEW AWARDS: MOST SUCCESSFUL PRODUCTION OUTSIDE QUEBEC AND BEST PRODUCTION FROM A DIGITAL PERSONALITY
It’s no secret that digital productions by Quebec creators are getting more and more recognition abroad. Considering this growing trend, the NUMIX AWARDS competition, in collaboration with Export Québec, is introducing a new award for the Most Successful Production Outside Quebec. On the other hand, the NUMIX AWARDS were among the first in Quebec to include a YouTuber category among their list of prizes. To update that category, the team has conducted a series of consultations with various players from the industry. For this 10th edition, they are launching theBest Production from a Digital Personality award, rewarding the excellence of those productions, but also the popularity of the candidates. This award will combine an industry jury evaluation (50%) of the quality of each production and the originality of the topics addressed, and for the first time in the history of the NUMIX AWARDS competition, a public vote (50%). The public will thus be invited to vote online for its favourite production from February 25 to March 10, 2019.
The jury for this 10th edition will be presided over by Steve Couture, cofounder of Frima, a video game company where he was CEO for more than 13 years. With 400 employees and more than 600 video games and projects produced across all platforms combined, the company based in Quebec City has long been recognized as the most important independent video game studio in Canada. Furthermore, Frima has worked on several animated films and series, including major IMAX productions, as well as a few Hollywood blockbusters (Warcraft). Since his departure from Frima in 2017 and in addition to participating in the creation and exploitation of several youth brands with partners all around the world, Mr. Couture is Chairman of the Board of Directors of PIXEL Québec and copresident of Go-Élan.
